The Alignment

“In exchange for the promise of security, many people put a barrier between themselves and the adventures in consciousness that could put a whole new light on their personal lives.”  June Singer

Resistance is futile can seem a good line in a movie but it can easily be applied to my life. No matter what I chose to do, where I am going, which decision I will make, here I am! There is no escaping the simple fact that unless I am true to myself I will not be who I want to be or be where I want to be.

If you are like me you decided years ago that you would become what you knew in your heart to be your true calling when… It turns out that when is the worse adverb in the English language to use in connection with anything that has to do with fulfilling your dreams. When is the camouflage for fear, when is the list of excuses or reasons that you use to not make any decision that will grow your soul. Procrastination, denial, resistance, the list can go on and on. Each person has their own vocabulary that goes with their whens and ifs.

Adding blame to the mixture makes you dig instead of climb. Blame buries you deeper into the hole, gleefully helped by when. Until you accept that you are where you are because of your choices you will remain in the hole you dug for yourself. Accepting and taking responsibility for all your choices will hand you a ladder that will bring you out of the hole and open up a path to start on your climb to conquer the mountain of your dreams, of the life that is meant for you.

It is easy to be lulled into the comfort of the known, change can be uncomfortable, unpleasant, even scary, but it is always worth it. Being happy, feeling joy, deciding for yourself is a byproduct of the courage to leap and go for what your want. By conquering your fear, you will realize that there is no reason to fear your dreams. The strength, the happiness that you will feel as you start climbing out of that hole will bring you closer to the people who really matter to you. People will respond to your inner joy and happiness. It will bring you freedom as you never imagined it. It will free you from what other people think of you and the choices you are making, it will give you more self-confidence, self-love. You will feel like the mountain you are climbing, strong and beautiful.

If it had not been for the great personal upheaval I mentioned in my previous essay “I am what I am” I would not have discovered how much happiness was available to me once I let go of my fear and started my blog. Pushing the publish button for the first time freed me of the fear that had paralyzed me. It made me realize that I was on the right path, there was no blame, no regrets, just inner peace, my heart felt full. I feel joyful and grateful every day for the earthquake that shook and allowed me to truly open up to my own possibilities. I have no regrets, it doesn’t matter to me that it took me this long to be where I am. I am where I want to be! I am alive and climbing!

You have nothing to fear, you create your own destiny, nobody else knows you like you know yourself. Decide to care about yourself, by being and allowing your inner strength to guide you, you will find yourself. By letting go of blame and fear you will be able to define how you live and how the world around you makes you feel. Look for kindness, peace and joy and reflect that kindness, peace and joy to the outside world. Be happy, be joyful, it will make the world a better place.

“…We have no chance of discovering the fullness of our inner music, if we don’t let the players in our hearts and minds and spirits tune.” Mark Nepo
